Understanding PTSD
When we face distressing or frightening events, it's normal to feel upset, confused, or worried. These feelings usually fade within a month or two.
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) happens when these intense feelings persist for an extended period.
Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) develops when trauma occurs at a young age, lasts for a long time, or when there is little chance of escape or rescue.
PTSD and CPTSD may affect about one-third of people who experience trauma, and they can develop even years after the event.
