About cocaine addiction
Cocaine is a dangerous and illegal drug that poses serious risks. Its powerful highs are highly addictive, leading to problems that affect mental health, family life, relationships, and work.
Cocaine can quickly turn from occasional use into a dependency. The body starts to crave its intense high, requiring more of the drug to feel the same effects.
Cocaine affects people differently. Some may feel a temporary boost in confidence, becoming more talkative and energetic. Others might feel more angry, agitated, or overly self-important. The initial high can make you feel euphoric and invincible, but as it wears off, it often leaves you feeling drained, exhausted, paranoid, and anxious, especially with frequent use.
You might notice changes in your loved one's behaviour and wonder why they're acting differently. You could even recognise signs of addiction in yourself but believe you can quit anytime you choose. However, this isn't always true.
Signs of cocaine addiction may include:
- Finding that you need more and more of the drug to feel the same high you first experienced
- Agitation or restlessness when not using the drug
- Thinking a lot about the drug when you should be concentrating on something else
- Putting cocaine before friends, family and work commitments
- Finding it tough to quit, even though you are aware of its harmful effects
Addiction is a complex condition affecting both the body and brain. While withdrawal symptoms can be intense, they are not life-threatening. These challenging symptoms often lead to relapse, with about 75% of individuals struggling to maintain recovery from cocaine addiction.
Even if you feel alone in your battle with addiction, Smart TMS is here to offer the caring support and innovative solutions you need to overcome it.
Cocaine addiction treatment
Currently, there is no FDA or NICE approval for cocaine addiction treatment. Various medications have been tested, but none have proven effective and all come with side effects.
Psychological therapies, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and contingency management (which rewards patients for staying substance-free), can be combined. These treatments typically require at least 6 months to be effective.
Overcoming cocaine addiction is challenging, which is why many approaches, including psychotherapy and rehab, often do not succeed.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) shows promise as a treatment for cocaine addiction.
How does TMS help with cocaine addiction?
TMS significantly reduces cocaine cravings, with most patients reporting a craving level of 0/10 by the end of their treatment.
TMS treatment for cocaine addiction involves a single course of 15 sessions. These sessions focus on the brain area responsible for addiction urges and are scheduled once daily, Monday through Friday, over three weeks.
TMS for addiction
Research confirms that Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is a safe and effective method for addressing cocaine addiction.
This non-invasive treatment uses repetitive magnetic pulses to target brain areas responsible for cocaine cravings and dependence, without the need for anaesthesia, medication, hospitalisation, or recovery time.
We use the same treatment programmes as psychiatrist and toxicologist Dr Luigi Gallimberti, as seen in the National Geographic and keep up to date with all new research.

"I filled in a form at the clinic and under the cocaine craving score I circled the number one. In actual fact, on reflection, I think I should have marked zero. As I still thought about it, I felt I should mark one but in reality thinking and craving are two separate things. The craving was zero! And this has continued to be the case throughout the rest of the treatment. "
"TMS will be a game changer. Whatever it is the reason you have been recommended TMS treatment, it's worth it from depression to trauma to some sort of addiction, empirically I can state that the benefit will be felt soon. I really strongly recommend. "
"I cannot express how wonderful this feels. No cravings, no depression, nothing but positivity and a renewed zest for life."
